Poinciana Leaf *

Valley Brisbane Oz

Or is it a Jacaranda Leaf? Paul might know as he's good with plants, which is good because he's hopeless at everything else.

Very nice image. I like that the background, perfectly colored the same as the leaf, is just blurred enough to isolate the main subject but not blurred too much so it is possible to recognize that there are more leaves of the same kind forming the background.

What an interesting view! I agree with Mary Anne that the red tips in contrast to the background really add a dynamic to this. If I didn't know about your lens, I would have assumed the blur might be because of the wind, which I would not have minded in the least anyway. I think the blur actually adds some life to the photo. Great shot! jano

Well seen, Rod. The red tips at the ends of some leaves (but not all of them) add interest and make the image more dynamic. I like it a lot.

Of course it's bleeding art Paul, I'm an artiiiiist. The blur in the background comes from using the 200mm lens which really blurs the background. Close up it has a very narrow depth of field, the left part of the leaf is closer to the camera & is where I focused with the right side of the shot just falling out of the DOF. If you look closely the bottom right part of the leaf is also out of the DOF but not as much as the top right. How do you know its a Jacaranda? The missus reckons it's a Moreton Bay fig or a rose bush
This was taken looking up into the tree with the sun coming down & illuminating the leaves with backlight. My leaf was shaded so the sunlight through the leaves & branches gives the background that look & colour…………………………….& Photoshop of course.

Goose! Of course it's a Jacaranda. Really good warm colours again on this one like the saxophone. What gives the background its colour?

Been looking at this for a few minutes and i don't know if it was deliberate or a balls up on your part but the top row of leaves moves from a sharp focus to a blur at the same time the amount of petals on each stem increases if you follow and it seems to draw your vision across the photo like following an opening curtain. I like that effect . It's art init?
