bug's world*

pier at Waukegan Harbor, IL

First time entry. I never would have taken this shot except I saw the challenge while seeking other answers at the dpreview site. What a resource! I'm real happy with this camera so far. This is the full frame. I used Irfanview to make a quarter size image, and then shrunk that 20% more to get under 150k. Probably not the best way to do it...

I followed the photoshop size reduction method Sharon recommended in the first comment, and uploaded the new version. This is much nicer than the way I did it before.

It occurred to me that I could Photoshop the sky. I've been playing with it but so far without success matching the yellow color while preserving the "texture" of the sky. I'd like to keep the white of the clouds, but replace the blue with the right yellow. It does look like another world when I change the sky to yellow! :-) Anyone have tips for me? Is there another place where I could post a modified version for people to help me with? -Jim

Great catch! Fits so well into what's going on in space these days. Personally I might have removed about 50% of the sky so the "background" is more what the bug is on than the sky (and the "rule of thirds" might apply too), but it may not come across as well that way. Good eye! - Tom

Great shot for your first time entry!!! I really like this perspective and the bug is the perfect color for the background. I envy you on this wonderful capture. jano

Welcome Jim :)

You have a great eye, this is a very well seen shot. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks for the nice comments. I took another one that looks even more like a giant bug taking over the world, but it has a shadow across the bottom left yellow corner. My "sunshield" hand made the shadow. Jim

Cool shot Jim. As another challenge newbie and S2 owner, welcome! :)

This is very good, almost surreal as if it's a composite still taken from a b-movie disaster flick where huge bugs take over the world. This one's munching away at Africa by the look of it.

Good first entry Jim

Jim, welcome to the challenge! What a fantastic first entry! There is a tutorial on resizing your images here:http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/image/28212120 but it is based on having a version of Photoshop on your computer. It looks like you did just fine however you did it. I love this image and hope we will be seeing much more of you on the challenges! ~Sharon
