Thanks :)

Nope no burn tools used, it's dark in the original as well. Because of the exposure compensation the rest of the photo is darker and the fire isn't overexposed. Very little post processing work done here. The basic steps where Levels, Shadows/Highlights, rotate, crop, resize and sharpen. And some cloning touchups.

It's overexposed but I still like it because of the log glow.

Excellent shot, really great. But * .. is did you darken the borders in PS? It looks as it has been manipulated, the upper corners at least.. or is it natural?

Good info Techo, should try it this winter when at camp.

Found the exif:

Exposure Compensation -2 step
Shutter Speed 1/40 second
Flash Off
White Balance Cloudy
Saturation Normal

The camera has no manual aperture setting but it was set to F4.9

Hi aam :)

I'll try and find the exif for this one. But as far as I can remember, when using the powershot to take this photo...
I may have underexposed the photo by spot metered for the fire, locking the exposure and then reducing the exposure compensation.

Sometime ago I tried to photograph fire, it was tough. Glad you managed not to blow the highlights. Very nice and peaceful pic.

Thanks for leaving your comments. Appreciate it :)
I kinda liked how the thin line complements the frame and inner glow since it's all dark around the photo, but let me try and remove it and see how it looks. I know the frame doesn't make the shot though ;)

one of the best fire shots i have seen. very very nicely detailed and prefectly exposed. Techo, this is impressive work. -Abstract
btw, i dont mind frames in general, but i couldnt see any reason for that colored thin line. just my 2 cents.
