Ear Blaster *

Belchertown, Massachusetts USA

I walked away from this shot with my ears ringing and feeling as if I was hearing everything from underwater.
Nevertheless, I liked the reflection of the cannon shot on the ground and on the fellow at the left, who was wisely covering his ears.

Mary Anne, it's my experience that my Digital Rebel has the same shutter lag as my analog Rebel. It's very very very short making a capture of a canon firing a lot easier. I've still got my G2. I know what you were dealing with. I am impressed by the timing of your picture!

Thanks, guys. This was about the third or fourth time they went through the whole procedure, and I tried to anticipate the firing from when they turned away from the cannon. Pops, does your comment mean that DSLRs don't have shutter lag...that images are recorded as quickly as with the film SLRs? I thought that all digital cameras had varying degrees of shutter lag and I'd just have to learn to work around it.

Hmmmm, shot with a G3 that has a serious shutter delay. In light of that this goes beyond "great capture." This is fantastic.

You can get away with the BH for this topic as white heat is the hottest heat:-) Great shot to capture this, well done.

i am impressed that you were able to catch this image without the burst/continuous-shoot mode. btw cannon-bhl doesnt bother me. -Abstract

Thanks, Abs. I wish I had used a faster shutter speed so that the blast would not have been so washed out, but they shot these at great intervals, and this was the only one where I was able to actually catch the blast and not just puffs of smoke. If I had had my wits about me and had recharged my battery before leaving home, I would have used burst mode. Maybe next time...but I'll be sure to take earplugs along as well.
