Village Blacksmith *

West Springfield, Massachusetts

This blacksmith shop is part of a collection of early 19th-century buildings from various parts of New England brought together to form a small village in my hometown. Blacksmith shops always seem to be dark inside, and today was overcast, so I didn't get the nice window lighting I was hoping for.

I know the EXIF won't show up because I did some post-processing in PSE, but it was shot for 1/25 sec. at f2.8. No tripod, just steady hands. LOL.

Thanks for your comments, Shu and Nugar. Nugar, it does have that Flemish/Dutch Masters kind of lighting, which is one of the things I liked about it. I'll tell you that I was very grateful for PSE, as it enabled me to pull up some of the details.

Excellent image, Mary Anne, I love the Rembrandt colors (or what I think they are)

Outstanding lighting and color, Mary Anne. This style reminds me of my friend Anna Yu who has posted many such shots in these challenges. Beautiful entry! Shu

Thanks, Nico, Rod, and RK. I do enjoy taking candids of people engaged in doing something.

Wot a great shot, we can see where the light comes from as it skirts across the bench with the vice on the right & hits the blacksmith on the arm. Even the slight motion blur in his right hand as he hits the hot metal. This shot contains beauty & realism all rolled into one. Love it.
