I replaced the background because it was disturbing but I didn't change the image except for a little sharpening and level adjustment. What effect do you mean?

To me it's a little much on the noise in the background, but otherwise wow! What's the workflow process you use to get that effect? It's very emotional.
Beautifully created, Julian! Texture, color and compostion (even the frame) combine to make this outstanding! I find myself studying the details of the image, the light on the hair, direction of the beard and softness of the shirt. Wonderful work! Shu
