Approaching Summer *

France

iso 100 1/60th sec f/11 55mm

I think its a bit early for me to have developed a definitive signature. Over use of photoshop maybe one though. Im very much interested in composition, whatever the subject. This is the scene from where we stay. Barley in the fg, then corn and hay, cut yesterday, bailed today. I'll commit myself to "thinking about composition" as my signature. Sorry abut the frame Rod, but in this case i feel its warranted.

Gives a nice window like feel, looking outside at the pretty colors. -Cat

i love the abstractness of this landscape shot. i agree with Rod's "7-layer" (a good title) observation. wtg Andy. -Abstract

Many levels here, beautiful

I counted 7 steps (the sky) without including the you know wot.

Like this Andy, the six steps up work very well indeed for me. I want to snap a head of the barley in the foreground off and throw it like a dart.

Andy, I like the vertical crop a lot - I think this is less of a landscape and more of an abstract of shapes and textures, and that shows really well.
Beautiful picture!

Thanks for all the feedback. In answer to Rod, it went something like this.

"Needs a frame i think.... there, that's better."

Im glad the orientation is good for some and not for others. It just reminds me that I'll always shoot for my taste and that even if i did want to try and maximise my votes, i could never hope to please everybody. I appreciate the honesty of comments and especially if you make a comment when you dont like it. It is very valuable to get the opinions of such people.

I like this style of over-saturated colors. The contrast makes an otherwise ordinary scene very appealing. And as for the frame, it's been added in good taste. The frame should support the image, not overpower it. Shu

I like the bands or layers of color (hope that's the right term). I think this orientation makes the photo more interesting, for me at least.

This is a different take on landscape(layered vertically). Don;t know if I like it...
Like the foreground, its sharp and has some interesting textures to it. The distant background (the tree line) seems a little too harsh.

Andy can you explain the thought process of deciding when a frame is warranted?Apart from the shot not being good enough on it own:-)

Waw, I just wanted to peek the thumbnails, but I had to open this shot... really excellent!!! On the * side, a tad to narrow for my taste, maybe it was the only option don't know... but I like it really very much anyway...

Well done. The tall portrait shape helps to emphasize the different textures as they band horizontally. That sounded wierd! Nice pic. Rich

Nice composition Andy! The softness of the image definitely works for this landscape. - andrew
