The symbol of women's oppression is now art? lol
I suppose she's making a "statement"? lol

Rod, I haven't changed a thing since I submitted this one. Blame it on pbase!

Mary Anne, are you playing tricks on me as I too can now see the stitching & some texture in the cloth. All I saw before was total black with white specks (looked like fag ash) Unless me monitor has warmed up now:-)

There's definite texture in the black cloth, I can even make out the stitches right above her forhead, so smoothing out the white spots by painting over with black would make it look weird on some monitors. As far as the expression in the eyes, I would say they have that calm, "I've seen so much nothing can shock me anymore" look. I've often seen it on the faces of old women in rural Romania.
Beautiful shot, Mary Anne!

I think this photo is superb and the white marks are clearly under the fabric which i imagine to be slightly rough to the hands and messed up workers hands like i've got would snag on the material so as i look at the photo i have the powerful image of the womans eyes, the fantastic colours and also a sense of feel for the fabric.
If anything the deep black of the material under her eyes looks slightly unusual on my monitor as it's so dark it appears to have no texture .
I've seen a photo of Rod with 2 pairs of spectacles around his neck, his eyes are not to be trusted. He'll vote for this anyway:>)

Me too Mary Ann:-) Problem is Shu looks 20yrs younger than me. Shu knows the eyes well, & I've been looking at white specks for 61yrs so get rid of the buggers:-)

Shu, I'm glad to know there's someone in this group older than I am! LOL

Great pair of eyes and as they say, "the eyes are the mirror of the soul." They have depth , IMO, and I know because I've been looking into eyes for nearly 70 years! Shu

Well, I'll just stand back and let you guys have a go at it. I don't plan to change it...and I'll also be away for a long weekend, visiting my son in Atlanta.

dont pull me into this controversy. Rod has harassed me enough in the last challenge :)
eyes are so strong in the shot that nothing else matters to me in the shot. so i would remove white spots just for the sake of complete blackness in the background. either way, it doesnt matter to me though.
as far as * is concerned...somehow eyes dont convey any emotions (except the "stare") to me. imho a bit of pain in the expressions would help a lot.
Mary Anne, a beautiful shot nonetheless. dont let Rod confuse you about its beauty :) -Abstract
ps: going out-of-town for the long weekend...see you all on tuesday.

Mary Anne, I don't prefer changing photo-journalistic pictures. If there is nothing written on her forehead and you're sure that they are just BHs then take it out if you want to. Actually I have seen photos with stuff written on the foreheads before, thus my comment.
Rod, actually, it was the stress from Abs challenge. ;-) -Cat

The reason why the spots are there (light gauzy material) I'm not sure has any relevance as the viewer can't see light gauzy material that you saw Mary Anne, I can't see any texture in the cloth... So for the viewer they're just white spots & I think a distraction. I can't see what Cats is on about adding value to the message, what message does he get out of the white spots?:-)
I wonder if he's on whacky tobacco.
This is a minor point as the shot works beautifully.
ctfchallenge27-May-2005 00:28
The "spots" are actually reflections of light on the top layer of fabric, which is a light gauzy material.

Thank you both for your comments...and for looking so closely at the image.

Very subtle communication. I like that direct eye contact. Ash/spots don't bother me. They add value to the message she is communicating. So do not alter what you have got, otherwise you will end up manipulating the message. -Cat

What an awesome shot Mary Anne, & not too comfy for a lot of Americans. I would clone out the fag ash:-) or whatever it is (white spots) as they distract a little. Fantastic work.
