Big n Little *

To take pictures of VERY small things you need a VERY big lens!

Yesterday, as TheFly and I were sharing a delightful lunch together we talked about many things. We talked about challengers, challenges and this challenge topic in particular. It struck me that perhaps the "disproportion" did not always have to be visual that it could be context! Armed with that thought and the proper props I shot "Big n Little"

Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel
1/20s f/18.0 at 18.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Grass blurred! FYI the camera is a Konica Autoreflex T-3 Anniversary model serial No. 175 of 1500 that I got in 1973 and the lens is a 400mm f4.5 fully manual Hexanon lens.

Paul was wrong, Pops does have a big'un:-) Well shot Pops, any onlookers would have thought you very strange watching the process of this shot. It works very well.

Pops, That turned out great. The photo does the size of that lens justice. theFly

Abs, I kind of anticipated the "visual" requirement and that's why I shot it this way. My original concept was a very small flower and a hugh piece of glass with little or no depth in the photo. I feel pretty good about killing two birds with one stone!

And, man, are you quick on the comments! You didn't even leave me time to finish updating the image and your comment was there! WTG.

Pops (now i know who posted the shot :) ),
i just read the description you added on the photograph...i agree that disproportion could be contex based but as far as this topic is concerned, only "visual" (size based) disproportion makes a photo on-topic.
the perspective used in this shot is showing the camera way too big than it actually is from the rose (atleast that how it feels to me) that is why it is on-topic...not because of the contex-based disproportion. as the way you have covered the whole lengh of lens, some people might have different opinion/feeling about that visual disproportion though.

holy cow!!! i almost feel sorry for that poor rose.
looks like some sci-fi movie with huge alien ship/weapon pointing at some small earthly thing. i like the perspective too. i dont know what dof would be nice but i will try to blur-out grass on the top-left corner. -Abstract
