The Nose Knows *

Our beagle Layla, who's really much prettier than this photo would indicate. That's disproportion for you.

Wow, great capture! Those tiny paws look about a mile away from the huge nose and eyes. I'm always impressed with people who can compose perfect shots of living, breathing, running things.
This could be in a dog calendar!

Thank you all for your kind comments. This shot was the best of three "sessions" with Layla--one outside on the deck (where she kept turning around or jumping at the door, leaving me with lots of blurs and side views and shots of the deck floor with just a portion of dog), one in the family room (where she was napping until I got out the camera, and then she kept sticking her snout right into the lens, probably thinking I was about to give her a treat), and one near the front door (where I finally figured out that using all manual pre-sets and burst mode was the only way to do this). I just kept telling her, "Sit!" (the only command she understands...beagles are not known for their intelligence) and then held my finger on the shutter button until she moved her head out of range. So, Paul, don't be too hard on Mutley. Layla and I look forward to seeing his picture here.

i have to admit this is one of the very very few pet-shots i ever liked (another i Ann's Pogo in exhibition). trust me, if just a bit different perspective can make me like a pet's shot, you have done an amazing job :) -Abstract
just a nitpick would be...upper dark half and lower ligher half is a bit uncomfortable to my eyes. not at all a big deal though.

Nice disproportion. The nose is bigger than the dog! Neat! -Cat

Very nice. Usually I do not like the pictures of dogs, but this is an exception

This is very good Mary Anne. I shall get Mutley in here and show him how he should have behaved:>) I love what appears to be a bulge in Laylas jowls just to the left of her nose as if she's got her tongue in her cheek.

I hope Layla is a she, some folks call their dogs odd names.
