This chum salmon was floating at the top of the water. He had just finished spawning and had just died when we found him. Our guide Craig picked him up to show us why these salmon are also called dog salmon. They grow these strange teeth as they swim upstream to spawn. They use them to dig a nest in the rocks in the stream bed where the female lays her eggs. We saw this on a trip to SE Alaska on the Snow Goose (www.snowgoosealaska.com) last summer.
