RK, please dont get me wrong...i dont have problem with flag being oof. it was a bit too much oof for my taste. you have used f/1.8. imho you could have easily dealt with that issue, so i mentioned.
as i said earlier, i have no question/problem with this shot being on-topic. its a clever interpretation for that matter. if thats the only reason its in exhibition, you should move it to eligible. as posters shoot photos within a day or two before posting in eligible, people tend to give more feedback in eligible gallery. may be you will hear more feedback. -Abstract

Thanks all for the wonderful feedback and criticism.
Pedro, you guessed it right. It was overcast. I should have metered off the sky. Looking at the exif, the shutter speed is way too high for this. I had the camera, in AV mode and I should stopped down.
Abs, thanks for pointing out the purple fringes. I have read about these red/purple fringes in lens reviews, but didn't know how to spot one.
About the flag being OOF, the flag was too close to me and I was shooting with the 85mm prime. Since the challenge allowed one of the subjects to be OOF, decided to go with this one.
I have other shots of this combination (without the BH and purple fringing) with both subjects in focus, but they do not convey disproportion.

I think the flag MUST be oof... maybe not that much, but you need to feel the perception of distance... the washed out sky..mmm... maybe it was an overcast day...

i failed to see disproportion before reading Pedro's comment.
even though its a clever interpretation of the concept and ofcourse on-topic...blown-out sky, purple fringing at building edges and way too oof flag does not let me enjoy the photograph. just my 2 cents. -Abstract

I struggled to see anything relevant to the topic at first but then reading what Pedro suggested and your subsequent crop makes this an excellent shot. You do indeed get the feeling that the flag right in front is flying from the flagpole far away. I think you should move this to Eligible.

Exactly! It looks amazing now... what a big flag...

Thanks pfehlauer, the crop does look better. It gives the impression that the near flag is hanging of the far post.

Maybe if you crop the top of the pic, to the point where the mast ends and a little more, so it could give the impression that the foreground flag hangs from that mast...
