Photonut, I actually have nothing against dark shots, but I think there has to be enough light or color in the image to provide the necessary contrast. This one is still dark but it conveys a certain mood. The original, I think, was too flat to have any kind of impact. I think it's great that you're experimenting with different kinds of light...and I know that it's difficult to get good photos in low light situations. A real challenge, no?

This is very simple but very appealing image. Great play of shadows and subdued colors

Thanks guys.

Mary Anne, if memory serves me correct darker shots don't appeal to you. I like the effect that low light shots can give. But I do need to learn alot more about lighting.

Interesting about the art class info. Last art clasess I took where in high school, many years ago. Last art book I read was *A The Non-Designers Design Book*, Very Good book!

Better. And do you notice how the left side now has some light, which helps to make the shade look rounded? (I'm presently taking a drawing class and have become very aware of the importance of contrast and negative space in giving a three-dimensional feel to a two-dimensional image. I'm still learning, however...and they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.)

Thanks guys. Cat, the wall is a light grey.

WOW! I am looking at the final image. Did not see from the begining, but I am liking it as it is now. What color is the wall olive or grey? It appears as olive green on my monitor -Cat

Works for me. Just a tad more contrast wouldn't hurt but I do like how it is now. And congratulations on your first sd500 entry :-)

Nice idea! The image still appears a bit dark on my monitor, even tho I did notice you've highlighted the side of the shade, which is great. A tad lighter over all would be perfect, IMO. Shu

The lighting is too subtle for me, making the photo appear flat. I'd like a bit more contrast.

This is fabulous… Its simplicity and subtle lighting (is it window light?) is what makes it so pleasing. Great work PhotoNUT! Brian
