Any photos of them, Paul? (Silly question...of course you have photos.)

Thanks, that other shot is superb. Here in Sydney the Gum trees lose their bark at the start of the summer and all varities lose it in a different way with stunning colours and textures quite similar to the Birch in a way but far more brash. That's Australia for you:>)

Thank you for your kind words, Paul. If you like paper birches, here's one that's even more of a macro, taken last fall.

I adore this photograph. I don't care whether it's on topic or not, the Silver Birch is one of natures most wonderous creations and this captures it perfectly. I have a terrible urge to peel off that bit of wafer thin bark to the right of the scar.
Beautiful.

Thank you. Those birches are very photogenic trees.

Diagonal/traingle point aside, this is great side lighting. The textures are so nicely captured. -Cat

You're right about the vertical aspect, Rod...I actually thought of cropping down to the diagonal scar, but then I would have lost the delicate papery peeling bark. I figure it's as on-topic as many others, more so than some.

Nice shot Mary Ann but for this topic the vertical tree & diagonal scar have equal prominence. To me the topic should be the focal point or makes the mood of the shot & not just a minor part of the shot. Don't remove it, as with quite a few shots here the topic is secondary in the picy:-).....cept my shots of course:-)
