4. Another Panama *

Panama

Panama (NP) - Not everything is fun and games in Panama. Crime, gangs, 18% unemployment and the high cost of living make for hard times to a large segment of the population.

El Chorrillo, one of the neighbourhoods harshly hit by the 1989 US Invasion, lives among the decaying wooden tenements that saw better days in the Canal Zone era.

I like this one of all the three! It has a great appeal and somehow feels like it has seen a lot of life in this city. -- Photocat

Thanks Abs, you've got it right, I just love saturation. Maybe my eyes are undersaturated so I overcompensate? LOL

Nugar, you managed to get your favorite bright colors with this journalist's shot together very well in this one. -Abstract

Thanks for your comment, Gayle!

This is fabulous, Nugar. Very, very different from my part of the planet and incredibly interesting. Obviously I've lived a fairly sheltered life in a safe town, cos I could not imagine living near a place like this! Great photojournalism.

Thanks Mary Ann, yes as Rod comments, this is a very dangerous area, with gangs that require their new members to murder someone to get in. I wouldn't want to be the entrance ticket!

You don't get questioned here Mary Ann, they just eat you..............if you're lucky:-)

Wow...what colors. Great shot...it really shows life in this part of the city. I know what you mean about not wanting to get out of the car. I've been questioned several times during the past few weeks. Do you think people are becoming more suspicious?

Thanks again for your comments, Rod. Well, I have to confess that this is a drive-by shooting. I didn't dare getting out of my car here, as it is very dangerous. This image was actually taken before "Panama Colonial", since this was in the route from the bridge to the Old Quarter. If you do come one day to Panama, I can arrange another drive-by :)

Congratulations Humberto you have exceeded all my expectations for this challenge. Topping it off with this stunner. How are you received in this area taking photos as it's not always received too well in some poor areas? You have presented warts and all look at Panama & I would love to visit one day. Thanks mate on a first class entry:-)
