Runway 28

Cobb County Parks and Recreation Sports Aviation Complex

Most of you know that digital photography is only my second passion. First is flying radio control model airplanes. Well, actually, Mrs. Pops is number one, flying and photography are a distant second and third.

This is where I fly and this is where you will find me every Wednesday and Friday morning.

The Cobb County Radio Control club (CCRC) was founded in 1962. I've been a member since 1990. This is the fourth or fifth field the club has used. It's open area is something like 20 acres. We've been here since 1994. The runway, 450 ft x 50 ft was paved in 1999. Currently the CCRC is the 12th largest RC club in the US. We have about 200 members. The field includes storage, rest rooms, covered work areas and a separate area for helicopter pilots.

Oh, yeah, I recognize that thing. We have a couple near us. I think they call them Kennedy & La Guardia Airports! LOL! Nice shot and I enjoyed getting to see a little bit more about you. You really like inexpensive hobbies! LOL! ~ Lonnit

very nice, you even made it into a photograph instead of a snapshot. the colors are so rich adn the placement of the airstrip very nice. we use to go watch others with their planes and helicopters and one time this guy had just taken out his new really expensive helicopter for a test run and it exploded in midair since the guy before him forgot to switch off his radio or something like that.

Wow, Pops. Great shot of a great looking facility. I used to fly model airplanes as a kid (c. 1963). But having no money, we didn't have the r/c planes, just the ones you flew in a circle at the end of wires which were connected to a handle/reel gadget called a U-reely. If the baseball field wasn't in use, we took off from the base paths. Otherwise, your friend would hold your plane and launch you into the air and then fall away from the flight circle so that if you had too much up-elevator and did a tight loop he wouldn't get decapitated!

Things have sure come a long way. -Philio Vance

Excellent shot & comments Pops, we've heard about you flying your aircraft before but this really brought it to life. Great entry Pops. It looks big enough to need air traffic control.
