Haifa has two universities. The oldest and more famous is the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, where I work. Besides producing engineers and scientists the Technion has a faculty of medicine, two members of that faculty just won the Nobel prize in chemistry (see: http://www.technion.ac.il ).
