5th: Finality *

So much has been said about body language - this is very personal to me. My mother asked that I take this shot. I don't suppose many will find it appealing. But I want to share the language as I see it - my parents being married for more than 50 years holding on until the end - the finality of body language.

I have mixed feelings about whether to see sad or just focus on the love these two have for each other & a love that has lasted longer than most people get to experience. Because the shot doesn't have any dark areas to emphasise sad, the shot lends itself to me seeing the two lucky people in this shot that have enjoyed a long life of love.

Sad and strong at the same time. This image makes me feel something deep... the knowledge of the impending loss for your mother and the feeling of a life shared for such a long time. This is a very meaningful image and I thank you for sharing your mother's bravery and your father's willingness to be seen at this point in his life. Ann

Thanks for your comments, Rod. This photo has never been seen by my mother. Dad died shortly after this was taken. My dad has reels and reels of old home movies of us growing up, and always had a camera in his hand. I guess mom felt as though it was a moment worth capturing, although I can tell from her eyes the extreme sadness that lurked there...naturally.

Who gives a bugger about appealing, this is as powerful an image as I've seen. What a fantastic shot. Well done JS.
