Techo, The shot was mostly backlit. I used two lights on the back with paper as barn doors to reduce reflections. Spot healing brush was also used.

Lonnit, The umbrella could have used some more light. But that was one of the challenges to add light to it without causing lots of blow highlights on the glass.

I like your twist on the theme :-) This isn't easy to do. I like how you handled the reflections, there almost are none. Was this photo also backlit?

Thanks,
Techo.

Ah yes, that's precisely what it is. The umbrella should be as sharp as the glass. The stem of it is nice and sharp in the water but the brolly part isn't. I think that's why it looks like it's pasted in - although I knew it wasn't - because EVERYTHING in the shot is tack sharp except the red part of the unbrella. ~ Lonnit

I think the problem with this image is that the glass is much more prominent than the umbrella.

Thanks Lonnit. I can assure you that the umbrella was not PS'd in. It does have jagged edges which might be adding to the effect. I am not really happy with this one overall, but not really sure how to improve it. I think that the background looks to much like the construction paper that it is. Open to suggestions to help give it a more uniform texture. theFly

I thought it like a painting as well, but didn't know which artist. :) Cool. One little thing is bugging me though. Why does the umbrella look like it's been PSed in? It's hitting me like something I'd see on Sesame Street in Elmo's World! LOL! YKWIM? Maybe it's the way the yellow is jay-pegging around the umbrella. Just makes it all that more cartoony-fun-painterly. Nice job. :) ~ Lonnit

Thanks! Not an original idea, but I added my own twist. theFly

Great idea. Almost could have been Matisse painting
