* Window Shopping

New York City

I was experimenting with flash/slow shutter tonight in Manhattan and this shot is precisely what I was after. There is absolutely no post processing, it was all done in camera. I only sharpened very slighty after resizing for the web. There is a softness to this image that entrances me, and I just love the colors. Call me crazy, but I just love this shot!

Thanks Rod. :) Well, I was shooting from the car (huge habbit of mine! LOL!) so I was in the lane next to the parking lane. So, that puts me a good 30' away. If you compare the bright jewelry in the window to the men, you'll see that there is substantially more motion blur on the merchandise than the men outside. Actually, it looks like the men were indeed frozen by the flash, but the rest of the scene has blurred over them. Yes, the lighting does look natural. I guess the shop was bright enough to create enough ambient light to soften the effects of the flash, plus the distance helped as well.

As for the honorary title, I've always been one to be more like the guys. I'd always be the one female drinking with the guys in the kitchen while all the girls sat in the living room talking about weddings and showers. Well, until kids came along, then I was into the baby stuff, but there weren't many more parties anyhow! LOL! Hubby has always said I think like a man. I was a tom-boy as a kid as well. I also spent a career in a man
s domaain in the construction industry, designing, estimating, and selling and home remodeling. Now here I am hanging out in the photog forums where the male #s absolutely dominate. I guess you might consider me a transvestite since I think like a guy but love to wear dresses and makeup! LOL! ~ Lonnit

Very good shot Lonnit I think it works really well. When you say experimenting with flash how much of this shot is illuminated by the flash? I ask because it looks like natural lighting so you did extra well. I might make you an honorary bloke:-)
