AHA! I didn't think it was a mirror! :) As for the swirls of hand lotion? Guess it is a good thing I'm getting a new monitor b/c I can't see any swirls in there. They must be in the 2nd to last shade of black b/c I get a full b/w spectrum except the last two boxes become one rectangle - hence no lotion. :( ~ Lonnit

OK! Well I can't honestly say I was ready to share a psycho analysis with the rest of the ctf challenge crew but I guess there is some explanation due of the photo. Markvision's breakdown of the piece was very reflective and I'm willing to give him a B on accuracy and an A+ for effort! The most important part of the photo is the frame. It is calm, collected, and stable. The opening could be called an entrance but not one designed into the construction of the frame. Part of the frame was chipped away and hacked into resulting in a warming of the frame's character. The cool, calm base is still there but, due to the intrusion, the frame has adopted some warmer characteristics. That's about all you're going to get out of me!

The frame is actually made of wood. The paint is oil paint and it is sitting on top of paper and cardboard with a hole cut into the middle for the darkness. The swirls in the darkness are handlotion. The break in the frame is from the back of a hammer - atothev

So Atothev, is Markvision's explaination right on the money? Amazing to believe that's what you put into in and Markvision was able to completely see it for all it's glory down to every last detail. ;) I understand the explaination, but unless you both went to the same art school and had the same teacher, I'm just not believing that the whole rest of the world has figured it out besides me. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. ;) LOL! ~ Lonnit

Boy! Some impressive shot! (And an even more impressive commentary.) You've captured it all!! Shu

Okay, here's my splanin' Rico! (hope your not sorry you asked)

The self portrait, in my opinion is the frame's reprsentation of the foundation of the artists character.
The frame resembles one around a mirror, the mirror which also completely devoid of light, not simply black. Thereby, shifting the importance to the frame and not to the reflection. A selfportrait through a frame is very difficult because ones frame/foundation is often overlooked due to the presence of the reflection. For example, an individuals character is often overlooked based on the individuals physical attractiveness. And for that reason the frame's middle remains devoid of subject. It would seem the artist wanted to display his foundation and not his reflection.
The continuaity of the blue is broken by the entrance into the frame characterized by red with balances of yellow. One can understand the point at which there is entrance into a persons character is significantly different than the already established foundation of that person (for example, even in regard to a building, walls are much different than doorways). The shadow reinforces the the presence of an entrance, as though to place a little more importance on that part of the frame. The colors of the frame are strong and easy, but perhaps the entrance is overgarded and too small. (I am alluding here to the character of the artist)...well that's why I stated selfportrait.

Ok, I give.... what is this? And what do you mean about self portrait? The middle is just black. "Luuuuuucy.... you'd better start 'splainin'!" LOL! ~ Lonnit

Very impressive creativity. Nice to see the presence of yellow to help your balance. Is this a self portrait?

what is that, atothev? it looks terrific.
