* What it was - What it is

Ground Zero, World Trade Center, NYC

Before I got seriously into photography, I'd always at least had a camera for snapshots. My last, prior to the 10D was the Olympus 3030. Soon after 9/11 I had a very strong need to be there. We drove in one night and I tried to capture some essence of what I was feeling. When I got home I created this website, dedicated to those who perished. http://ontheisland.net/NYCweb

Of course you're right, Rod, but I think we Americans have an unexplainable visceral reaction to photos on this topic. I have pictures I took from the top of the World Trade Center in the mid-90's, and I still get a shiver when I think of how the spot where I stood has been pulverized into nothingness. I think Lonnit's photo has captured some of the feelings that people experience when they view the site today.

That title would apply to many trouble spots around the world. Good title though lonnit.
