warm comfort on a cool day *

home

Peering out the bedroom window into the blustery rain and snow, basking in the glow of the warm light in a soft wool sweater, is my wife, what greater comfort can a man know...

well i went into photoshop, and selected only the hot spot on the speaker, and burned it. it looks more natural now but not sure if i should repost it here as i am a first timer posting here, and then also, the others who read the posts later wont have a clue of what we are talking about. Thanks for the feedback on the radio, i really love that old thing (the radio ) so it is hard for me to be unbiased enough to judge its influence on others impression of the pic. it seems she is listening to the news or something. maybe I will post the fixed shot on my gallery, so anyone who wants can check it out. thanks again, the feedback is great!!

This is a beautiful photo, I like her expression, texture of her sweater, lighting and the radio. The radio makes this photo interesting! I do agree with the others, regarding the speaker glare. A little work in Photoshop should correct it. If you decide to crop, I personally would remove only about a 1/4 - 3/8 of an inch from the right of the photo. In my opinion, I would keep as much of the radio as possible. When I look this photo, I see a woman, looking out the window, reflecting in thought, who's content expression has something to do with the radio, perhaps just finished talking to a husband or family in a far away land. That's what I see when I look at this photo.

Point well taken... the daylight reflecting off my old Hammerlund radio speaker is a bit intense... i may try and burn it like i did the phoneto the gray cabinet color as seen on the front of the radio... of course the natural color of the wood window sill yes that is how thick my wall is... would have been preferable, at the time i didnt have time to think i saw her and had to jump quickly before the fleeting expression on her face vanished....

Regards

A beautiful portrait, Dean, but I agree that the speaker (especially the glaring white reflection on the right) detracts from the photo. Have you tried cropping just a little to the right of your wife's elbow? Then the strip of white remaining can be cloned out or changed into that lovely creamy background color.

Gday Dean, Judging from the photo of your wife you are a lucky man she looks lovely. The lighting on her is wonderful, I'm glad you used the bulb to give the light warmth. I found the side of the box that's sitting on the radio (is it a speaker?) is far too bright & distracts from the portrait & spoils the nice mood you have captured. If you could get a shot like this with only your wife & the window in the shot (no radio) it would be perfect in my view. Well done on a fine portrait.

thanks I white balanced for daylight, turned on a 60 watt bulb in the window to add warmth, then in photoshop i actually desaturated it a little bit and ... burned the phone down a little that was sitting near the radio, so it didnt scream for attention... i also cropped bye eye from the original camera size.
regards, Dean

The colour on this is amazingly beautiful and the composition is right on.
