Parasite

Mr. Botanist here finally noticed this viney little plant wrapped around one of our
bougainvillea branches and I mentioned the presence of a parasite to Leela --
noting, however, that it was a pretty good-looking one.

After a short scream, I was archly informed that this was an orchid
that she'd been struggling with for months. Fortunately for both the plant
and me, Gayle made this challenge "living color" -- because this blossom
was in such an awkward position that under other circumstances I might have
been inclined to pluck it off and put it in a bowl of water.

We're both safe, although Leela now knows the depths of my botanical knowledge.
Not that she hadn't already guessed.

Well, Techo... time for confessions. This didn't just spring from the branch... it's attached to a vine that I cloned out. And, yes, the bougainvillea are in bloom, but they didn't look as interesting as this. Thanks for your comments.

Something so beautful springing from such a bare branch. Where the bougainvilleas in bloom at the time?

And right you are... thank you, Gayle... thanks to you, I've at least won the Knowledge Stakes. I found more information athttp://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/interiorscape/hoyawax.html. Thanks, too, for your comments. It's the old black velvet trick. Don

I think this is a "hoya"......not a lens filter, but commonly known as a wax plant. And if I'm wrong, it's because my botanical knowledge usually goes as deep as "that's a red rose, that's a yellow rose and that's a daisy".
Very nice photo, by the way....love the black background.

Don, If I had to have a parasite, this looks like a nice one to get. Love the detail on the branch. theFly
