Montreal Monarch (*)

Montreal, Canada

You may have seen this one in one of the earlier mini-challenges. I tried to improve it a little bit (with LCE / my first experiments). It just fits Gayle's topic so nicely. Comments / suggestions very welcome.

The crop is good. the flowers lead nicely out of the corner and then you hit that big tall flower in the background that prevents the eye from slipping out of the frame; instead you follow it up the step to the flower and leap back across the top OOF flowers all the way back to the butterfly. So yes, the new comp is working well. The blur is very strong, but IMO that's what makes the shot. It's like looking thru a ViewMaster! ~ Lonnit

Thanks for your kind words, Lonnit and Pops. I have used some Gaussian blur on the background. Do you think it is too much? In a previous crop, the butterfly was in the center. I prefer this composition now.

Frank, I like this picture. The out of focus flowers mimic the ones in the foreground beautifully. That's great use of DOF.

Wow! It's sooooo 3 dimensional! Although, it seems like the butterflies and the flowers are actually flat, they just jump off the background! It's almost like they are a cardboard cutout! Super shot! ~ Lonnit
