August 6, 2004 Mary Anne

Color Coordinated *

My backyard

This was a lucky shot, I think, although there were many others that got away. I say it was lucky because I didn't use a tripod, close-up filter, or special lens--just some cropping and sharpening.

A very nice macro. As I mentioned in some other comment, I'm too chicken to get too close to bees and anything that I may think is one, got stung once. Though by looking at these photos, I think I got my courage back.

it keeps amazing me how good the G3 lens actually is. I still use mine often, keep it in my bag all the time, although I als have the Canon 300 D.
Great shot by the way, Mary Anne.

Beautiful shot ! And I think it might be a horsefly.

I don't see a stinger on his business-end, so I'm guessing fly. Not that it matters - interesting, eye-catching shot and amazingly sharp. -Philio Vance

I think it's some type of a honeybee, as there were a number of them visiting my plants at the time. Would the pollen on its legs be a giveaway?

Actually, that seems to be a fly, cleverly camouflaged! Mary Anne, I must say that you have quite a steadier hand than I do!

Great catch, and yes, very colour coordinated - I take it that is a wasp, or is it a bee? Haven't seen any-thing like that here. Neil
