Thanks for the comments. Yes, the ability to have a 300 mm lens (X 1.6) was the primary reason I bought my 300D. Being able to blur the background with a wide aperture is a nice addition too. Otherwise I am was very happy with my Powershot S45, as I am sure you are with your G. Neil

Wonderful tones and clarity, Neil. I can almost feel those feathers. Like Nugar, I'm frustrated by the limitations of my G3, which would make it well-nigh impossible to get a shot like this. Of course, having your skill would also help. ;-)

This kind of pictures is why I want a DSLR. No matter what my wife says, a picture like this just can't be shot with my G3. Hopefully, by the time I have some money available, the next 10D will be on the counters...
