It's core board which is actually a very dark gray and actually looks like that i'm afraid. I tried to fiddle with the background, but could not cut it out, and didn't have the time to study a great deal in PS. I may try to do something like this again in the future to improve.

Very well done - a good execution of an original idea. I think the background suffers a little from jpeg compression - so we shouldn't judge that. I like it.

Actually it was intentional as I used lighting to create a dimmed effect. I debated on it, but liked the outcome better than without. I'm very new to doing this type of photography, but am basically just having lots of fun. I think the lighting gave it a little colorwashed effect also. Just learning but aiming to get better results :)!

Clever idea. Looks good as is, but if the darkness around the edges wasn't intentional, try zooming in a bit, then standing back further and see if that helps? Neil
