Mary Anne, for those occasions, I use the manual focus and "body zoom". That is, I lean forward/backwards until ti seems in focus. But really, the G3 is not too good in the focusing area. That's why I want to upgrade to a 300d. I used it yesterday and fell in love. But it will be some time before I can get it. Maybe in time for the Celeb 100 Challenge :D
Paul, I have a difficult time getting sharp focus on close-ups with my G3, especially in a case like this, which was not posed. I'd appreciate any suggestions other G3 users might have. I've read that an aperture of 5.6 seems to work best, but sometimes the light conditions just don't allow for that at 50 ASA, which is my usual setting in order to avoid excessive graininess. I've just discovered unsharp mask in PS Elements, so I'll give it a try.
Nicely composed, and I like the contrast between the orange juice and white cutting board/background. The image could stand a bit more sharpness in post processing.
