Thanks Gayle! I did struggle with the background colour for a while and am still not quite happy with it. I went for blue to have the three base colours, but it doesn't quite look right. I've played around a bit with your suggestion of using some green of the stem and it does look better than the current version. I'm still wondering if blue wouldn't suit the picture better though, if I could just find the right shade.

I can't even begin to imagine the amount of work that went into this! It looks great! My only other comment would be on the background colour. I think I would have picked out a light shade of the green stem rather than introduce a third colour.

Thanks for your comments all! :)
I played around with the bevels a bit, but ended up with the
current version in the end (35 pixels). I like the markedly tiled look, though I see the point of those who'd want it reduced a bit too.

Well done! I'm fine with the bevels on the vertical sides, but in the real world the horizontal sides of the inner slices would not be beveled. But... that is totally anal - this is a really fun shot! ~ Lonnit

I don't mind the bevels. It looks like tiles you would install in your kitchen. Great job. theFly

Very creative concept and I love the execution, very well done. The amount of beveling is definitely a matter of taste, and I share Nugar's opinion. But this in no way diminishes my high regard for this photo.

Great concept and realization, although I'd would like to see a version where the bevels are smaler, say 1 or 2 pixels.
