Old Songs (*)

My dinner table

Title song by Barry Manilow

Old songs always bring us memories, these are two songs full of them: "Photographs and Memories" (Jim Croce) and "The Sound of Silence" (Paul Simon).

I like the pics inside the pic, along with the recorder and music it evokes memories of my childhood.

I agree. I like the color version better; I suppose because the colors are muted.

Well, there's still The boxer, Mrs. Robinson, Cecilia, Bridge Over Troubled Waters... :)

I like the way you've composed both a photo and a story here. And how interesting that you should feature Simon and Garfunkel. I just saw Art Garfunkel in concert last night (most enjoyable!) and am trying to find a photo that fits one of their songs. (Is "Sounds of Silence" still up for grabs?) Unfortunately, I can't shoot anything new just yet because my camera is still being repaired. --Mary Anne

Thanks both! Here's the sepia version. I made it with an action, so it is more like a quick and dirty version. http://www.nugar.com/gallery/album01/hoc_6186sepia

I think I like the colored version better. I tried the sepia first too, but settled with this semi-desaturated version.

Well thought out - and executed very well. I'd also like to see a version in sepia for comparison; though I'm sure I will like this one better.

Yeah, this is superb Nugar! This is the type of photo that makes one remember old times. Really nice feel to it :-)

Thanks Pops. After you posted two pictures with classic names on them, I went to my music-book collection and tried something with my guitar and sheet music open on a Bach Bourrée (I prefer the Baroque), but didn't like too much the result (might post it in exhibition). So I kept looking and found a Simon and Garfunkel music book that was in really bad shape.

The book isn't even mine, it belongs to a friend who lend it to me when we were in the University... more than 20 years ago. The book released a cascade of memories.

So I intended to shot something with " The Sound of Silence " but when I saw Paul Simon's picture (the eyes in the pic), I though it would be nice to put some old pics there. And then the " Photographs and Memories " title came to me. Which to use? Easy! A third title that would include both. The grain came just natural.

I like the grain effect. It add to the "old" feeling of the image. Nice
