Spire and Moon

Shot in Century City, Los Angeles after work this evening. This is the top of the Park Hyatt hotel. I want to try this one again at a full moon, and add the teleconverter to the 70-200 zoom. I'm guessing that the "star" to the right is the planet Venus.

Alexei, Mary Anne and Neil, thanks for your comments. Since I was exposing for the highlights (spire, Moon, Venus) the dark sky automatically went to black. I also dialed in -2 stops of exposure compensation.

I really like this, a little bit of a tilt, and nice colour in the spire. Yes it is Venus, and you were fortunate they were so close together. On our side of the world they were setting just on/after dusk, and didn't get any good opportunities like this. Now they are too far apart to get both in one shot. Neil

I'm surprised that you were able to get such a black sky. I would have expected smog and light pollution such as we have here along the East Coast. (Of course, I've never tried taking a shot of the night sky, so I don't know whether it would also look black to the camera here. Guess I'll have to wait for a clear night.) --Mary Anne

Essential is beautiful. I like that the spire is tilted a bit towards the moon and Venus plays as a balance

Hi Nugar, yes, this is one capture. The only things done in PS were to adjust curves, crop and resize the image.

Paul,

Very nice capture. Did you capture everything in the same take?
