I had a difficult time deciding whether to submit this one or the other
flag shot for the Eligible Gallery so my wife made the call and
this one ended up here in the Exhibition Gallery. In some ways,
though, I actually like this one better because I think the green
railing adds some visual interest to the scene as does the vertical
columns and converging horizontal lines of the building. The stars
against the union are more visible on the flag too. This was shot in front
of the Artilery Museum at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington.
Post Processing Details: Applied 'Auto Levels', flipped the entire photo
horizontally so that the flag is represented with the union on the top left
and the stripes on the right (I think I read somewhere that was proper flag
ettiquette and I tried to shoot it that way but the wind just wouldn't
cooperate. Besides, I also think that's the way most people perceive the
flag...it would actually look backward the way it was actually shot. And, since
the building is identical on both sides, I don't think it detracts from the
photo.), and cropped to 600x800.
