Baylands Sunset*

Palo Alto Baylands, California

The Palo Alto Baylands is my favorite Bay Area location for bird photography. I usually go there for the "golden hour" before sunset.

I really like this diagonal succession of three reflections. Amazing composition.

I have family and friends in the Bay area, so I know about some of the coastal sloughs and baylands. This one is new to me, and I'll have to check it ou the next time I'm up that way. The evening "magic hour" is indeed special and this captures it very well.

Oh. Parts of it must be older than I thought. I know the west entrance was built on a landfill in 1991. This was shot from the east entrance. --Garrett

My husband knew exactly what it was once he'd figured out what I was saying (apparently I got the pronunciation wrong).....he said "Oh, yeah, you'd love it there! Lots of birds!"

Thanks for your comments. All you former Bay Area residents have probably never heard of the Palo Alto Baylands. It literally was a dump until 12 years ago, when it was converted into a nature preserve. --Garrett

Lovely photo, and this is my favourite time of the day. Beautiful light, gorgeous colours....and a little bit more of the Bay area for me too see :-)
Thanks Garrett!

I love sunsets. This image makes me think of sitting by the lakes of Maine as a kid watching the sun go down. Colors are beautiful. Very nice picture.

Beautiful Garrett! You are in my old stomping ground. I grew up in the East Bay. Sure is a beautiful area to live. This picture shows that very well. Ann C
