Shot * 1st Place

The rapid expansion of high temperature gases leaving the barrel of a rifle at incredibly high velocity... Or simply baking soda being shot out of an air rifle. Your choice :)

Canon PowerShot G2

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Very nice capture....like others have mentioned I may have included a bit less of the barrel. Nice job. Fred

Hey, thats a great idea, I have wanted to enter in the cslr challenges, but I only have a G2:( I totally forgot about the exhibition category. About the cropping, I actually tried to compose the shot with the barrel ending about 1/3 of the way into the frame, but I guess I didn't end up capturing the shot that way. I cropped off 1/2 of the barrel, but I think the reflection off its length gives the shot some character, so I decided to leave it. Just a personal preference. Thanks for the suggestion.

I tend to agree with Pops.....moving the barrel back would give it more impact. But like it needs it???? What a fantastic capture!

PS. Why not enter this into the current CSLR challenge exhibition category, it fits the theme perfectly.

My only comment is about the cropping. Right now you've got it split 50/50 with the barrel and the smoke. All the "action" is on the left. I'd like to see more smoke and less barrel. Perhaps, using the thirds principle, shifting the end of the barrel to the right might make a great picture better, But then again it might not!

Andreas, if people did I think they'd have said so - the only (*) comments I would leave are: don't tell us how you (may) have done it next time!!!!! I thought it was a real shot and was very impressed. Maybe it is !

Thanks for all the praise guys. Does anyone have any critical comments regarding potential improvement of the shot?

Excellent, professional looking capture! ~ Lonnit

Wow! I thought this was a rocket in space, because the background looks spherical, like a planet or a star. The gas ejection gives an impression of movement. Anyway, nice shot! ;)
