Low Voltage Christmas *

Boise, Idaho

I love these wooden Christmas lights and have used them in other challenges. They allow me to play arounf with DOF and I like the effect of having only one of them in crisp focus.

Thanks to all for your EXCELLENT feedback so far - I think that everything that has been mentioned is very useful and would have made this a much better shot. This was with the onboard flash of the G2 - which I hate using. (The 420EX is on the way!) Thanks again - Bauerman

DOF is great here as others have said. However, I think it would be enhanced with a more uniform background and different lighting.

The lighting on this is too harsh to my eyes--I'm referring in particular to the reflections on the bulbs and the shadows behind them. I might suggest a bounce flash, other indirect lighting, or one of the home-grown diffusers mentioned elsewhere in these challenges. Also, I think the busy background distracts from your main subject, the lights. They are visually interesting objects and deserve the full attention of the viewer. Apologies if this criticism comes across stronger than I intend, but I'm trying to be responsive to your forum post.

A very pretty photo and unusual subject. Nice to see something a bit different in this challenge.
I think maybe I'd like to see the whole of the blue globe in the top right hand corner, rather than the top of it cropped off.

The DOF is spot on. Something I've found G series cameras to be very good at. I never imagined in all my life that wooden lightbulbs exist.

I like the use of the ornaments and the DOF. They are a fun electric / nonelectric element. I do think that the background is busy and hard to understand.

I like the totally non electrical subject that is still dead on topic. I've always had a soft spot for a sense of humor. WTG
