Cold and lonely ? (*)

Stowe Gardens, UK

Taken on a trip to nearby Stowe Gardens. Deliberately overexposed a bit to make it seem harsh and cold. Got some amazing pictures from Stowe Gardens but this and my other entry are the most appropriate for the challenge. I recommend anyone who visits the UK to take a trip there.

Hi Pops. Thanks - I learned a new technique for this challenge! I did it on the original camera image and re-adjusted everything, I figured if I did it on the modified one I'd be changing perspective on i) a reduced size file with ii) artefacts from sharpening etc. in it that would get skewed too maybe..... just seemed the right thing to do. Great tip!

Good job on adjusting the perspective! It looks a lot more natural to me. Did you do it on the original out of camera image or on the submitted photo?

Thanks sww...can't wait to see what pops and Iso think now - still missing some detail on the column on the right but that may be lost forwever. This looks 'colder' than the original too I think, which I guess was my original idea. Thanks Gayle too.

Definitely improved with your latest editing.

I really like this....the perspective, the exposure and the general feel of the pic. The woman definitely looks cold and lonely! I tend to think it would also look good in black and white.

Guys - thanks very much for the comments. I'd never tried the transformation tool in PS pops - so thanks for that. I also didn't like the loss of detail Iso - when I saw the final result. I think I lost it in PS though. Anyway - i've resubmitted with suggestions I think fixed to some degree - please give feedback....the original should be here for your comparison:http://pauldonovan.instantlogic.com/itemDetail.ilx?idContainer={18904B61-D9BD-415F-A426-A985D092649E}&page=1 First time i've resubmitted and good learning experience !!!!

I like the composition and color, but I'm with Pops and iso3200 on overexposure and perspective.

Not so sure the overexposure works here. In fact the yellow tones to the stonework make it look warm. I'd like to see that missing detail on the columns personally.

The image and title work together well. IMHO a little PS work would help this photo. Because you are shooting up and using a wide angle lens the perspective on the columns is exeragerated. I've always found this a little unsettling. PS will allow you to modify the perspective. You don't need to make the columns perfectly vertical just make them lean in a little less. In Photoshop Elements, first select the entire image with the marquee tool then click on Image -> Transform -> Perspective and drag the corners until you like the image.
