It's a goal

Paul wanted to see a boomerang; sorry, but here's something else uniquely Australian. -- An Aussie Rules footy in flight. (I found it hard to get a good sense of motion - slower shutter speed and it looked too blurred. Cropped and resized, nothing else done.)

Canon PowerShot S45
1/125s f/8.0 at 7.1mm with Flash full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Well done - good capture. Nice to see that the effort that went into to this was rewarded.

I KNEW this was an Aussie entry as soon as I saw the thumbnail! Great shot, Neil....and very, very familiar sight around these parts at the moment.

You were very quick with your comments - I've just downloaded the pic. I dropped the footy from a ladder, and either used the self timer or a helpful boy to take the pics. -- about half of the shots didn't have a ball in them!!! I used TV mode and adjusted the shutter speed to try and get the best sense of motion. With the brightish sky as a background the smallest aperture was selected, and fill in flash used to lighten the ball.

Nice capture! Like the composition with the space all around it. Must've been tough to capture. Damn - there goes my excuse from upgrading from S50 to DSLR in future....you CAN do this with Powershot S series! How many shots did you have to take to get it ? Did you do anything special with settings? Also - who are you - no name at moment!
