Wow....that really does improve it... Actually - I noticed that with my shots from a recent holiday (first decent size set of pics I've taken without PSing). In a recent test Phil did (think it was s50) he noted that something in the camera (the sensor?) wasn't completely level with the body of the camera, so you take a pic straight, but it gets an angle from the angle the sensor is at. Think you can measure it with a mirror shot somehow - see Phil's test. Could be the problem? Great pic just got better.

Ann, I have a constant problem with one side of a picture being lower than another. My wife says it's because I'm just a little bit out of kilter, that I'm not quite plumb, that I have difficulty keeping a level head ..... So I've applied my usual 1.85 degree right custom rotation in PSE and re-loaded the picture (At least I'm consistantly off). Everything looks like it's on an even keel now!

Just wanted to add another comment (OK, tell me when to shut up and I will!) My husband was walking past my computer while I was looking at this pic. He stopped, backtracked, had a closer look and said "WOW!" He has no interest in photography, by the way. My daughter came to have a look and her reaction was the same. This is simply stunning.

Just to clarify - I think this is an amazing picture - the sky comment was a minor point and only visible when I look up close at my monitor (ok - so the answer is don't look so close!). Perhaps I'm getting too critical. It looks great from a normal viewing distance, and perhaps the close-up issues are my monitor but I also spotted the same prob on Jon's picture which he has now fixed so I figured it wasn't the monitor. This happens to be one of my favourite pics of the challenge.

Pops, this is really beautiful. The sky looks just fine on my computer. I really love this one. My only suggestion is to straighten out the horizon. The grass tips slightly down to the left. Other than that I think this is perfect. Ann

For what it's worth, the sky looks perfectly smooth to me. I am looking at the original size and I can't see any pixelation there.

Thanks for the comments. I think the "blocky" sky may be a pbase thing because I can't see it on the original submission copy on my PC. I may be related to the compression to get it down to 150K.

It is/was a moving memorial (gone now!) but IMHO, I think it missed a mark, but only by a little bit. There were around 3,000 flags there, all American. In the attacks foriegn nationals from about 60 countries also died. The flags of those countries should have been there to honor their citizens. Image how this picture would look with British, Aussie, Irish, German, Mexican, Canadian, French, Swiss, etc, etc, etc flags mixed in with the American flags.

Patterns and repetition are always interesting subjects. Obviously the symbolism of the image give it more impact as well.

Pops, I love this! Not only is it spectacular to look at, it's also very moving. I guessed it was a Sept 11 memorial before I read your description. Wonderful photo!

Like this powerful image and the double relevance of the plane also being there! I like the idea of 'flying' being about flags rather than just planes and thought I might try and use flags somehow myself but couldn't think how - this is perfect. Only comment (as per my comment on someone elses image) is that the sky looks a bit blocky and pixelated in places, perhaps due to the compression routine, but maybe it is my monitor at work!?
