Good quote, must remember it. Thanks Mary Anne.

The center focus is nice, Aam, but I think I would have cropped off some of the OOF greenery at the edges. I always try to remember what someone said: "If it doesn't add anything to the photo, then you don't need it."

I have the Canon 50mm 2.5 Macro and I sometimes carry it around with me because it's small. But usually I just carry one camera and a lens (remember I'm almost always on foot - bus, train, etc.) so the all purpose lenses work out well for me. Penny Street

Thanks, Doug, and I agree with your comment. Penny, have you thought of selling that lens and buying something else. Also, do you like primes.

aam (I say sheepishly) - it's the f4IS lens that I own (see that's why I try never to say too much) and yes, it's pretty light. I just haven't figured out what it's best use is. Penny Street

Too much OOF up front making me work to hard to find the treasure in the middle. -Doug

That's an excellent suggestion, Penny, didn't think of that. As for the lens, have you considered the f4 or f4 IS versions. I have the f4 and it's A LOT lighter than the f2.8 IS. Many people think the f4 versions are optically better than the f2.8 variety.

I have that lens. I haven't really used it much because it's too big for my camera bag that I carry to work. And too white too (afraid of the big bad robbers). I'm not the one to suggest what to crop, but this does have interest in the middle. Maybe you could try that. And I like the 2.8 with the focus in the middle of the picy. Penny STreet

Had to use f2.8 because I was getting low SS with the other pics (notice the iso). Besides, it's a new lens so wanted to try it wide open. But I agree with you, the photo looks busy or even messy :)

Also at 2.8 (like that) and very nice detail, but I can't say I'm in love with the compostion of this one.. the green is super against the background. Penny Street
