No panic mate I downsized it in case you run out of time.

Dougy, check the file size on this it looks over the limit mate.
ctfchallenge01-Jun-2009 11:13
Classic and the b&w conversion is perfect. jano

The angles of the horizon/shoreline is a vital part of the magic here IMO, counterbalanced by the tilt and angles of the bike. Straighten the horizon and the bike will look like it is falling out of the picture instead of being firmly parked as now.

Thanks Brent and I did consider a slight tilt. It's 1.4 degrees off but I decided to be brave and post it SOOC, no crop. -Doug

Great shot Doug! The conversion looks wonderful and I like the tree there. Just a tiny thing as what is straight and what isn't seems less important with these WA shots, but have you considered or experimented with leveling the horizon?

Most people I meet don't think so:-)
ctfchallenge30-May-2009 03:01
Rod, do you speak English ???????
Konstantin
ctfchallenge30-May-2009 01:37
Rod
My English is improving too, a Doug:-)
ctfchallenge30-May-2009 00:05
Thanks a bunch Aam. And I was serious about the English Konstantin. -Doug

Good work, Doug (best photo I've seen from you, perhaps?)
ctfchallenge29-May-2009 15:40
If it's not meant to be ironical - than thanks, Gentlemen. Basically, english is not my second but rather a fourth language (and not the last in the row :-) )
Konstantin
ctfchallenge29-May-2009 02:13
Thanks Tommy. I too have a trumendous amount of respect for those who learn English as a second language. I can't imagine how difficult it must be. -Doug

Doug you are demonstrating exponential progress much like Konstantin's English. Great work commenting Konstantin and you too Doug.. uh.. for the expertly rendered image that is. -tv

Thank you all for the flattering comments. There were isolated clouds that were threatening rain and the dark one is one of them. I thought of cloning the tree but decided to leave it because it balances out that dark cloud and serves as a stop in case the lean of the bike pushes you in that direction. -Doug
ctfchallenge28-May-2009 13:27
Rod
Penny I think the tree is needed as it somehow helps to reinforce the bike in the composition.

Ah I see Konstantin:-) The big mistake you're making is reading anything I write that carefully, you should just skim very quickly over my ramblings:-)
ctfchallenge28-May-2009 13:11
3 x WOW.

Rod,
no, my replay to your comment only means that I carefully read what you have written, have double checked your point of view, your argumentation, let say, have tryed to see the picture with your eyes but at the the end still kept by my opinion. That's all.
Konstantin
PS. Bike is excellent here and makes the whole picture. B&W processing on bike is also exceptional well. If I would clone out the tree - then this would be the tree in background to get the bike stayng against the sky.
ctfchallenge28-May-2009 11:59
I am in love with this picture. Even without the bike, this is beautiful. The darkness, surrounding the puffy clouds and the glimmery water is terrific. The texture of the sky vs sand is great. I might have tried to clone out the tree or play with a crop there, but I'm not sure about that. Anyway - then add the un-natural element in the foreground and wow - this is a stunner. Great work. Of course I do Konstantin. Whatever I say that may be opposite to your opinion is no slight on you mate. So saying I have the right to my opinion is stating the bleeding obvious & has no need to be said. Does the way I express my opinions seem to convey I'm stating universal facts? I absolutely refuse to say a juvenile IMHO after every sentence.
ctfchallenge28-May-2009 10:30
Rod,
You have right to have your opinion :-)

If photography only represented what most actually see it would be the most boring ahrt form ever, even synchronised swimming would look exciting in comparison. Thanks goodness most photographers try to reproduce the feel they have for a place so the picy won't look as most eyes see the real scene. Even if Doug had no feelings for this place he has produced a picy that ses otherwise. I can't compare these clouds to cumulus clouds & feel no need to, I just look at how great the sky looks & how the picy looks overall & what feelings it may impart to me.
I think this picy is Dougs greatest hour in photography. The darkness in the sand makes a great backdrop for the brighter tones in the bike which helps it to hold its own in the picy against that reasonably dramatic sky. The lightness in the water is a great touch too. So this only wins this challenge by 10 clear votes & not 20 I will mention just a little thing I notice in the burning of the blue in the sky is a bit uneven just where the cloud in the top right corner is pointing. It maybe a natural outcome from how the sky was if you didn't burn it in but I would fix that by burning just for the sake of perfection. I wont even mention the great composition to keep the win down to 10 votes:-) Who needs a bleeding 10mm when you can do this Dougy. Excellent B&W mate a real piece of ahrt.
Konstantin Yagudin28-May-2009 06:33
It is really good in B&W but a bit too dark for me and cumulus usually do not look so dramatic - here is slight mismatch between what you see and how it is presented. Composition is excellent!
