8th - Mother & Child in Living Color by tvsometime

NYC

OK here's the color version with the same crop - I think the boy's face stands out better than in bw.

Aam!? Aam likes the bw???? I'll have to post them both maybe.
Debi you make a very good point.. and I thought you just liked big feet. -tv

If Aamm prefers the B&W then that must be telling you something Tommy. And take no notice of Kiki she's just making trouble......bleeding foreigners:-)

I prefer this one... :)

I prefer the B&W too.

I still like the BW better. The mother and child looked dramatic and isolated. Here the yellow cab, the red sign board all ask for attention- debi

how to please the masses... you're just too good to us. Penny Street

Debi is right just do as she tells you Tommy. If in doubt ask the missus as she has taste.

Thanks Debi (secretly I (almost) agree), Doug and Rod (that's why I originally cropped him out), and Penny (I'm confused too). Back to work. -tv

BW for me - the harsh PP looked good -Debi

If it were not for that red shirt I would prefer the color. -Doug

The bloke in red is a total no no for this picy, I don't think he was in the B&W, was he? Anyhow the B&W one made me look only at the boy & mother & at their differing angles, the main point of the picy for me. But I suspect in colour there will be other things for our eyes to look at thereby diminishing the importance of the subjects. If you found the B&W harsh to look at is there another way of converting it to B&W without the harshness?

I really don't know which one I like better. Both are excellent for different reasons. Penny Street

Thanks Doug. What do you think of the full color version. I got tired looking at the harsh bw processing. -tv

So you pull off stuff like this even when shooting from the hip? Even the tilt adds to the artsyness. -Doug

Thanks Troy and RK. One good think about the little XTI camera is that it is quieter than the big D's. They have a funny little high pitched "clicking" noise that lacks that manly clunk of the your 5D or Nikon. That and ambient street noise in this area makes it fairly unobstusive. -tv

What a great capture... the moment...the boy/mother expression. This is awesome.. and you shot this at the wide end (12mm). How did you do it without them being aware?

Nice work!

That's what I suspected :) Really beautiful photo, and the B&W is an excellent choice because it gives it a classic look. Really well done.

Thanks all. To answer your question Aam, I was walking down Broadway on a busy evening holding the camera down at my side and shooting at I walked by to get a pov at the level of the child's face. With all the street noise, they were unaware I was shooting and much too imvolved with each other to care. I'll have to admit I cropped out a leg on the left margin and some extra sidewalk on the bottom to maintain the natural aspect ratio. I took four shots but this was the only one that captured them both in the image. Sneaky, huh? -tv

I'd like to know how you took this photo, Tom.

This is excellent perspective - like one of those Rockwells picys. :)

She let you shoot her at that angle? Real good one - Debi

This is a ripper picy a, the angle of the Mum & the kid is a magic touch that puts this picy in the top drawer. Great shot mate.
