This works well Brent with the flower exploding out of the corner. -Doug

Wow, that's one colorful lily! Love the bright yellow stigma with the purple anthers and red petals. I'm sure on my laptop I don't see as much detail in the petals as you do but I do see some. You don't happen to know what kind of lily this is do you? It's stunning! CJ

I see the detail and I like the picture, although I admit that I've been looking at it over and over - little by little, you might say. Penny Street

Thanks Tommy and Christakis :-) The red is so intense Chris because there is direct light coming through from behind. I guess depending on the monitor some of the detail will be lost. It looks good on my two Apple monitors with the ips panels that display reds quite well. So many mainstream monitors these days have tn panels that don't handle red well but are cheaper and refresh quickly for games and video. I expect many viewers might be seeing just a solid red background here with no detail :-(

This looks so different on my two PCs. I too have a problem with reds! On my windows pc this looks over saturated red on my mac pc it looks just perfect. Its not the monitor calibration I checked! Its something to do with internet explorer... (Firefox has the same prob) ~Chris

Brent this is burning a red imprint in my monitor. Good scarlet stigma ala Hawthorne although possibly not what's intended. (Maybe word play on stamen?) Anyway good corner work with lots of burning negative space = 6.5 points. Solidly on topic. Got to go to screen saver mode now. -tv

Thanks guys :-) I've been sitting on this one for a week and finally got some proper time to process it. I see what you are saying with the stigma Kurt. It's hard to see this in low resolution, but the challenge there is more of an issue with the stigma part that's out of the direct light has an orange hue that doesn't contrast well with the background. It's actually within the DOF.

Powerful red nicely contrasts with the yellow. I like the shallow DOF but just wish the right side of the "stigma?" was not blurred. -angioman

This is very unusual for a flower picy a. It's sort of completely manly with slight hints of femininity which causes me to look at this with admiration & fear. Great shot mate.
