Thanks to all for the comments.
Actually, the background is made out of two different layers, each with a different transparency to blend them together. One layer was pretty much solid black, driven by layers adjustment. The other was driven by curves to a more dark blue look while keeping most of the texture of the backdrop. The all solid black looked too stark for this challenge, and as Rod said, the remaining folds sort of point to the upper left corner, so I let them show through. If I were to print this for home, I'd probably select the all black & smooth background.

I kind of like that dark blue (rather than black) behind the bright green leaves and stem. The shadows of the folds provide some interest in the background.

Perfectly framed for the challenge Jim and lovely flower. Don't know about the blue background though. I would prefer it in less of a studio setting of at least a more natural color, or black. If the blue works for you maybe a healing brush over the wrinkles might help. -Doug

Lovely Jim! I might have used "levels" to blacken out the background - did you try that? Very nice as is too. CJ

This gets a rating of 6 (3 + 3 corners/edges) plus excellently balanced negative space credits of 2. Quality points add 4, plus a technical achievement bonus of 50 under the new, updated JBRBTVCAERS esthetic evaluation template. Total 60. I think RB (Rod) agrees but is doesn't really matter. (JB himself will have to recuse himself.) It's a technically perfect illustration of the challenge objective in its most elegant form as it demonstrates just how successful the subject placement can be without such clicheed rules such as the famous "rule of thirds". When done so well, the frame itself becomes a sympathetic part of the image instead of a static container. -tv

Thanks for the comments. The weather here has been pretty poor for an outside shot, I only had Sat am to shoot something, and I was lucky to see this in the house. It fit the topic pretty well.

I like how the plant radiates from the bottom corner - moves the eyes toward the single flower. Nicely done! - angioman

Beautiful and the composition works for corners / edges.

Good placement of the flower with the leaves interacting with the bottom corners & edges. The blue I can see in the background brings in the top left corner. So good thinking Jim.
