I like this one better as the road detail in the pending one upsets the mood for me.

I agree with Brent that it's hard to pick this or the one in pending. It's probably best to go with your first instincts.

Well done and nice idea for a shot Carole. I'm not sure if I like this one or the one in pending best. Did you try just burning the shadows on the road? It seems that or a slight exposure negative offset might add some punch?

Thanks Charlie and Chris. I put a darker version in Pending. Let me know what you think. I think the bird stands out more in this one but I'm not sure which works better. CJ

Nicely done CJ, I would try bringing down the exposure a tad. It would have also been cool is you captured 3-4 shots of this... Surely you would get a "one foot not touching ground" shot which would show the motion a lot better... ~Chris

Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he thought he was a blackbird! OK, your photo is funnier than my joke. I might suggest dropping the brightness a bit, to bring back a bit more detail in the bird and in the street.

Thanks all, for the comments!
Tom, glad there's another Johnny Cash fan here. I saw a great J.C. impersonator a few weeks ago - fun and entertaining show!
Doug, I'll try some PP on the pavement but the DOF is pretty shallow so there won't be as much texture in the OOF parts, but I'll at least make it a little darker.

It's good the way it is but I wonder if you could pull some texture out of the pavement with some PP? -Doug

Works for me too - its in colour but has a monochrome look which makes it very interesting - Debi

These are the type of picys I try to get & you got a goodun here a. At first I was going to say it was too bright but the dark bird against the light road seems to work somehow...........Must have bin a lucky shot as this is too blokey.

it's funny that the line is so wide for the little bird!!! and yet he still doesn't seem like he's going to make it. Good one Carole - Penny STreet
