To make it even more on topic. I guess I could make this a stricly square crop without the water and piece of sky.

Tv, Lydia, thanks for you comments :)

CJ, yes for the reason to blur out the water, and if it where a party cloudy day I would've liked to get some cloud movement also. I would like to try that technique mentioned, where you can use a long exposure to ghost out people.

Thanks Penny. It's been fixed.

Techo, this image is 156649 bytes. Please reduce to less than 153600.
Thanks, Penny Street

I like this, Techo. I especially like how the line of the stumps lead us to the 'smiley' in the sand. Kudos. ~Lydia

Techo, I'm still very interested in why you chose to use the ND filter and the very long shutter speed. If it was to blur the water, could you have done that without the filter and a shorter shutter? CJ

I guess I have to show my ignorance and ask what is a Lucas filter? Anyway, Techo, this somehow lacks your usual mastery and I think the difference is the indifferent composition and extreme tones almost impossible to manage without working from RAW. Good find though. -tv

Thanks for all your comments folks :)

What might help attribute to the look is some selective high pass sharpening and I applied noise removal to the sky and water. I think that's pretty much it. It was late in the day and cloudy. The light was very soft and pleasing. Really liked how it looked on the camera's LCD and this is how I imagined the shot to look after capturing it.

Its perfectly alright Techo- I would not have taken a better picture- Debi

I think I like it with the sky better, but without would work too. 93 secs - now that's a long exposure - looks great!! Glad to have you on board.

Very interesting technique and result Techo - it does look like a bit of HDR or Lucis was applied! Do you usually get tht kind of result with the long exposure? Did you use the 10-stop ND filter to eliminate people walking by? I've been thinking of getting some ND filters to try just that. I like the composition of this with the sea and sky and looking at a sq cropped version loses the detail in the upper part of the beach and the nice shoreline, so I vote to keep this version. I also like the subtle colors of the sea and sky contrasting with the stronger colors in the beach and pilings. Nice shot! CJ

Ah, Mereana just read to me what's written under the picy, a long exposure time. That may explain the overly detailed look.

Really good. Nice to see you post again, Techo.

I think this would be a outstanding image if you cropped out the sea, leaving the beach and wooden piles.

I don't remember using Lucis in this particular shot. I rarely use it, and if I do I apply it faintly to help reveal some detail but not get the HDR/Lucis look. I did vignette the corners at bottom part of the shot.

Thanks for the comments :)

Debi, I wouldn't want to stop you from posting what you had in mind. What was it you had in mind to shoot? I tried making my challenge description more restrictive. I can tighten it up more.

Rod, yeah ;) I was in a rush to post and head to bed. Being it's 2am here. What am I still doing up and awake.

PS. You have to name your picys At the Beach 1, At the Beach 2 & so on. So we can't use titles as normal. Do you have a girl around the house that could read the topic instructions for you:-)
Rod 01-Mar-2009 06:41
No need to crop Techo as long as the focal point is your declared topic. This is a very nice scene well captured although not real looking. Is this the Lucis filter at work? Some heinous Graphic Designer friend of my daughters put the Lucis filter into me Photoshop along with a few others. I thought I had a virus attack:-)

This is beautiful - although you have just taken away one of my topics- Debi
