Nice water shots Rod, you have plenty of critics, so I'll just say Good Luck-Stan.

Thank you Debi:-)

This one has come out very well - the lines of the pier and the shimmer of the light very well off-set by the dark water - Debi

This is my fave of your three, Rod. I like that you got all of the zones in it... the clouds are the best part to me. ~lydia

Thanks D:-) I enhanced the shadows in Photoshop........Don't tell anyone:-)

Nice one Rod. I think I would have lightened the image a bit so the pier would stand out more but the more I look at it the better I like it just as it is. -dtallakson

Thanks Brent:-) The end of the pier was the focal point in the sunset picy from the blurred challenge it's also where I shot the three Pelicans that only Doug liked:-) When I saw this on the camera Lcd I had to put the 70-200 on to try & get some blur.

I think you topic is all wet mate :-) Nah, this is a great picy- don't think we've seen this old pier before have we?

Thanks Carole:-) believe it or not but I shot this on 2.8 & focused on the pier for the blurred challenge:-)

Nice shot Rod, one we haven't seen before. Nice moody shot with that old pier and dark clouds. Good one! CJ

:-) A magnanimous gesture mate.

OK I'm going to relaase all focal lengths under 35mm but I reserve the right to claim focal lengths >35mm at a later date. This stipulation will allow Rod to keep this fine pier picy in place with all the dramatic clouds and water and glimmery effects. -tv

Thanks Y, Penny & Tommy:-) I think Tommy is going to be a problem in this challenge Penny, I'm being really good a.
Y about the B&W picys I normally convert from colour on the computer as I don't think there's any advantage in shooting B&W in camera. I know 35 years ago when I shot lots of B&W film I started to see or envisage in B&W but these days I'm not tuned in to it anymore.
As for the pop in B&W picys I think if you start off with a picy that has really good lighting like this picy which was taken near sunset then you have a fairly good B&W conversion straight away with nice highlights & good shadows. The main things I do to a B&W picy which may have a flat look isI do an S shape in the curves tool or you can use the Brightness & Contrast tool in Photoshop. Try minus 8 brightness & plus 8 or more in the contrast, this normally adds a bit of pop. Then I would burn (darken) in the shadows & dodge (lighten) the highlights. I didn't have to do much of all that in this picy because of the great light coming across the water.
When you get a picy you want in B&W then post it so we can see how to turn it into a masterpiece:-)

Rod, don't listen to Tommy - You can shoot Water anyway you want now, for the next two weeks. Just announce your subject in the forum. Penny Street

This looks like "Wide Angle" to me and the EXIF proves it. Off to Pending because I was there first. -tv

Good pick Rod, topic wise you will have some pretty pics. Did you shoot this in Black/white or convert? My black and whites seem flat, maybe I am not used to the 40 D. Yvonne
