Not to worry Konstantin. I missed the challenge only because I was on vacation for most of it. -Doug

Doug,

I'm very sorry that you feel confused by this challenge. I agree, the topic is very subjective,
and some times it is very difficult to explain what is the difference between some pictures as f.e. between Rod’s Bird and yours Fisherman. If you allow me, you Fisherman is a wonderful picture, perfectly balanced, (from technical point of view may be even better then the Rod’s one) and I like it very much (and it is candid as well) ... but ... when the “candid” component of Rod’s picture is excellent, from my point of view, I could not say the same about your picture. Rod’s picture is seeming more “candid” then yours - this has nothing to do with lenses, shooting angle etc - it is all about subjective feeling based on impression of the picture.

Again, my apologize if you feel confused and it is really pity if this was the main reason for you to miss this challenge.
Challenge was open for discussion and you could always express your opinion. I did comments to your picture at the very begin of the challenge.

Ah I now see what you mean Doug. I really can't separate your picy from my two especially if we describe the picys in words. We have found out that Konstantin loves a controversy so maybe he was trying to start one under your fisherman picy. Maybe you should have titled it Ugly Fish:-)

This one. It's not a masterpiece but it certainly fits the topic for all the same reasons you listed below does it not?

Thanks for the response Rod but I was referring to the comment made under my picture in exhibition that is similar to your masterpiece in content. After getting around to reading and commenting I reluctantly agree with you about this one. -Doug

Yes it can be a fine line we tread a Doug. I think the main difference between my fantastic picys & this lame attempt is that the people are doing something like talking on the phone (great action shot) & the lady comforting her ugly baby (a picy full of emotion & action) whereas your son here is totally inactive......... Anyhow why ask me ...............I know bugger all:-)hehe
I'm really liking the reflections you're getting in some of your picys now Doug, they really add to the image.

Portrait? You think? Hmmm, maybe. I missed almost all of this challenge and didn't have time to read through all of the comments but I did read enough to get topic confused. I have a fisherman over in exhibition that was deemed off topic but it looks to me to be very similar to shots that were deemed excellent for the topic here. Your shots for instance, which I do like and I do think are on topic, seem quite similar it shooting angle and even focal length but we received very different comments from our host. See your "Bird" pic and compare it to my "Hook, Line and Sinker" shot. Obviously very different shots but how can one be on topic and one be off? Don't take me wrong, my picture is no award winner but... I think I picked the right challenge to miss most of. -Doug

Yes Penny, after. This is how all of us looked just about every night on the short bus ride back to the hotel. -Doug
