The lighting really makes this shot. Also, I think that b & w was a good choice.

I like the bw but I hate to say what the ring drowning in those white things made me think of at first. OK I'm feeling better now. Good closeup. -tv

rice!!!! of course!!! it's funny how clear the kernels look.
My guess is that rice came first (probably some fertility rite thing) and then the confetti (someone wanted rainbows but didn't want to completely abandon tradition). Penny Street

Where did the rice tradition come from? I only remember confetti being used over 40 years ago in London.

Very nice YB. I like the directional lighting creating the light to dark gradient across the image. Rice isn't used so much any more at weddings here YB as it was found to be messy and the churches were more afraid of the liability of people slipping and falling on it, especially if it got wet. There is an urban myth about rice being bad for birds too, which is completely false. Now people throw flower petals, blow bubbles or something else. CJ

Correct aam - rice (I think appropriate for a wedding ring. Or is rice and weddings only a British tradition?)

Rice, perhaps :)

What are those things? Somehow they don't seem to provide a proper esthetic bg for the shiny ring. But that's just my opinion.
