Nicely done Debi. I like it much better than the original post.

replaced the pic with the most obvious highlight cloned. Original in pending

Nicely done Debi, probably the silver is picking up some color from the red- looks like gold for the price of silver :-) Flash is a bugger getting in really close for macros. I have a twin macro flash for doing close in stuff at work and it makes controlling the highlights a lot easier.

Did use some paper to block out most of the light, may be need to use some flash EC too. The problem is the camera has to be a few inches away from the subject to get focus- Debi

It's not so tough Doug if we tame the light source. I thing flash is a problem for macro unless you have one of those ring light thingys. Natural light is the way to go with a tripod & maybe long exposures. Highlights can be tamed by holding a white hanky or cloth up the filter the light.

Thanks Doug - Debi

It's tough to get shiny surfaces like this to not have blown highlights. The red background is a great touch. -Doug

I tried my red roses with different lights and with every different light balance before choosing flourescent light and white flourscent balance. Canon does not handle reds well or at least they don't look true to life. I think you should try the deep blue. It would be just as royal looking and it might be fun to see how it turns out. The bracelet is stunning. Wear it proudly! Penny Street

Flash might be too harsh for this Debi. Try in natural soft light with a tripod, you could also try it in a darkened room & during the exposure shine a torch on it & keep it moving (called painting with light). Or try just under tungsten light which gives a nice warm look.

The bracelet is new and this is what I got myself for Christmas. The colour cast needs to be fixed, I used the flash and there was a tube light in the room. May be I will try this again with blue velvet. Thanks for the feedback Rod, Tommy & Carole- Debi

Nice shapes and color contrast Debi. Is this silver on the yellow side or is the available light turning it more of a golden color? CJ

Debi, could the "scratches" be generic to this type of jewelry? I think this looks well as hand made, possibly old pieces but the red on top is a bit overpowering for them. -tv
Rod 01-Jan-2009 20:12
Nicely done Debi but the scratches on things in macros tend to spoil the look. You must have an expensive piece of jewellery that hubby bought you for Xmas that won't have any scratches onit, so use that:-)
